Have you been wondering what to give =someone as a special gift? Have you been looking around your home and decided that it needs spruced up? Do you have birthdays, weddings, graduations, and other special occasions all year that you would like to have unique gifts for? Well, wrought iron designs can solve all of your problems!
When most people hear the term "wrought iron" they think of massive gates to ancient chateaux, or fences surrounding grave plots in cemetaries, or the "architect's lace" of balconies in France, or even the ornate fences in New Orleans. Beautiful antique wrought iron can be found all over the world.
Here in Morocco we have wrought iron grills on all of our windows, not so much for security - we're on the 3rd floor - but for decoration. This is the window in my front room:
There are so many choices of delightful wrought iron designs to give as gifts for almost everyone on your Christmas list. Delicate jewelry holders for the ladies on your list, mirrors surrounded by wrought iron designs, clocks, wrought iron wall art, the list is endless.
Wrought iron designs will last a life-time if you take care of them. The care and maintenance of objects in your home is simple. Here are some tips:
- Clean your pieces frequently with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- From time to time, apply a coat of furniture wax to clean your wrought iron and keep the finish like new.
- The biggest enemy of wrought iron is moisture, so if your item gets wet, dry it with a cloth
If you have outdoor wrought iron furniture, you should inspect it at least once a year. Here are some things to look for:
- Nicks and chips in the finish that expose the bare iron. These can be fixed with a rust resistant paint.
- Rust. You can rub the rust stains with kerosene or a commercial rust remover and scour gently with a fine steel wool.
That being said, here are some great ideas for wrought iron designs for your home and family and for gifts for the holidays:
